Pride and Prejudice

In a new stage adaptation by Simon Reade Jane Austen’s story of the five Bennet sisters and their
pursuit of suitable husbands is the ultimate romantic comedy – set in an age when marriage was a serious matter.

On first meeting the handsome Mr Darcy, Elizabeth Bennet finds him arrogant and conceited. When he persuades his friend Bingley to break off a budding relationship with her beloved sister Jane, she dislikes him even more. But is he really the villain she thinks him? Jane Austen shows the folly
of judging by first impressions, whilst poking gentle fun at the affectations and etiquette of provincial middle-class life.

Susan Hampshire, whose distinguished theatre credits include Relative Values, The Lady in The Van and The Circle, plays the marriage-mad Mrs Bennet, one of Jane Austen’s most delightful comic creations.
